With regard to Rod Crammer’s proposal that ‘plans with vision are the answer’ (Centralian Advocate 29/01/10), the issue of new street lighting in rural areas could be solved using solar energy and technology.
Does Alice Springs, as part of the solar city solution, now have the capacity to provide street lighting without the need for ugly overhead power lines and cables or costly underground ones?
Imagine…..energy efficient powered street lighting throughout the rural areas utilising solar technology without the need for ugly and expensive power lines. That promotes our town as a significant solar energy resource leader. Perhaps there are models in other jurisdictions nationally or globally that Power and Water or Alice Springs Town Council could investigate?
Bring it on!!
Planning with vision – that’s the answer!! We’ve got it – let’s use it.
