Housing
Another prominent portfolio that requires a restructure of the government department into a ‘flatter’ structure that effectively removes ‘management clogs’ and ineffective managers. We have a clear responsibility to deliver appropriate, suitable and sustainable housing to all Territorians.
Middle managers who are working well in their positions will be elevated to the senior management team (that includes the incumbent Minister). Each senior manager (with the exception of the Minister) will be directly responsible for a number of operational team members and they will report activity to each other in a two-way simplistic and meaningful manner with projected outcomes and time-lines for achieving them.
Money that simply ‘disappears’ into an abyss cannot be allowed to continue. Those responsible for any mismanagement of funds should be held to account. It is possible to deliver quality housing across the Territory in a timely and efficient manner. There are some within the structure who simply manipulate the system for their own personal benefit.
Land releases and the building of new dwellings can be achieved over negotiated time-frames and time-lines. Historically, the Housing Department has been known to be extremely efficient and courteous in in it’s processing of applications. This level of efficiency is to be applauded.
Where do you believe these land releases will come from? Considering these issues that keep arising with the AZRI land release and the collapse of the Coolibah Tree estate, where will the land come from?
I mean we can’t build North or East (unsuitable land), south of the gap seems to be plauged with problems (plus we want to do some massive expansions on the airport to make it International) and we’ve got the ‘Golden Mile’ to the west. On top of that we have the (new) five-storey maximum height, there seems to be no direction the town can expand…
Think outside the circle, Tom. Why is the East/North not possible?
