Words to Inspire

Be Kind

Be kind to thy father: for when thou wert young
Who loved thee as fondly as he?
He caught the first accents that fell from thy tongue
And joined in this innocent glee.

Be kind to thy father: for now he is old
His locks  intermingled with gray:
His footsteps are feeble, once fearless and bold
Thy father is passing away.

Be kind to thy mother: for lo! On her brow
May traces of sorrow be seen;
Oh well may’st thou comfort and cherish her now.
For loving and kind has she been.

Be kind to thy mother: for thee will she pray
As long a God giveth her breath.
In accents of kindness, then cheer her lone way
Ee’n to the dark valley of death.

Be kind to thy brother: wherever you are
The love of a brother shall be
An ornament, purer and richer by far
Than pearls from the depths of the sea.

Be kind to thy sister: not many may know
The depth of true sisterly love;
The wealth of the ocean lies fathoms below
The surface that sparkles above.

Thy kindness shall bring to the many sweet hours
And blessings thy pathway to crown;
Affection shall weave thee a garland of flowers
More precious than wealth or renown.

(Frank Heazlewood’s version of the ‘brother’ verse follows)

Be kind to thy brother: he will fail thee never
His love is abiding and true,
No force on this Earth will ever disolve
The bonds that bind him to you.

Age

There is nothing the matter with me,
I’m as healthy as I can be.
I have arthritis in both my knees,
And when I talk, I talk with a wheeze.
My pulse is weak, and my blood is thin,
But I’m awfully good for the shape I’m in.

Arch supports I have for my feet,
Or I wouldn’t be able to stand on the street.
Sleep is denied me night after night,
But every morning I find I’m alright.
My memory is failing, my head’s in a spin,
But I’m awfully well for the shape I’m in.

The moral is this, as my tale I unfold
That ‘you’ and me that is growing old,
It’s better to say “I’m fine,” with a grin
Than to let folks know the shape we are in.

How do I know that my youth is all spent?
Well, my “get up and go” has “got up and went”
But I really don’t mind, when I think with a grin
Of all the grand places my “get up” has been.

Old age is golden, I’ve heard it said,
But sometimes I wonder, as I get into bed,
With my ears in my drawers, my teeth is a cup
My eyes on the table until I wake up,
‘Ere sleep overtakes me I say to myself
“Is there anything else I could lay on the shelf”?

When I was young my slippers were red,
I could kick my heels right over my head.
When I was older, my slippers were blue,
But still I could dance the whole night through.
Now I am old, my slippers are black,
I walk to the store and puff my way back.

I get up each morning and dust of my wits,
And piuck up the paper and read the obits
If my name is still missing, I know I’m not dead,
So I have a good breakfast, and go back to bed.

Theme From Time

Stand before me on the sign of infinity
All you of the Earth
With the granting of the Law of Provination
Comes the application of change
I will give you the key
And with this knowledge please realise
Comes the responsibility of sharing it
I will show you the way
It’s very simple

Throughout the Universe there is order
In the movement of planets,
In nature
And in the functioning of the human mind

A mind that is in its natural state of order
Is in harmony with the Universe
And such a mind is timeless

Your life is an expression of your mind
You are the creator of your own Universe
For as a human being you are free
To will whatever state of being you desire
Through the use of your thoughts and words
Ahhh … there is great power there

Can be a blessing or a curse
It’s entirely up to you
For the quality of your life
Is brought about by the quality of your thinking
Think about that

Thoughts produce actions
Look at what you are thinking
See the pettiness and the envy and the greed and the fear
And all the other attitudes that cause you pain and discomfort

Realise that the one thing you have absolute control over
Is your attitude
See the effect that it has on those around you
For each life is linked to all life

And your words carry with them chain reactions
Like a stone that is thrown into a pond
If your thinking is in order
Your words will flow directly from the heart
Creating ripples of love

If you truly want to change your world, my friends
You must change your thinking
Reason is your greatest tool
It creates an atmosphere of understanding
Which leads to caring
Which is love

Choose your words with care
Go forth with love.
